Stephen Francis Lloyd's Obituary
Stephen Francis Lloyd of Estero, Florida died on August 28, 2025 in the loving arms of his family after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Stephen was predeceased by his parents, Retired Colonel John Philip Lloyd of Wrexham, Wales and Marguerite Macmillan Germany of Metairie, Louisiana; and his elder brother John Wilson Lloyd of Harvey, Louisiana. Stephen is survived by his wife of 37 years, Giselle Mary Lloyd (nee’ Herrera) of Estero, Florida; his three children: Danielle Maria Lloyd Lobell (Thomas) of New Orleans, Louisiana, John Stephen Fredrick Lloyd (Blair) of Naples, Florida and Christopher James Lloyd of Shreveport, Louisiana; and his sisters Diane Lloyd Matthews (Charles) of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Catriona Elizabeth Alder (Malcolm) of Sydney, Australia. Stephen is also survived by his beautiful granddaughter, Emilia Rosemary Lobell (Rosie), and several nieces and nephews all of whom loved their Uncle Steve.
Stephen was born in Belize City on September 23, 1959, although his family’s home was in Wrexham, Wales. After his parents’ divorce, he moved from Wrexham with his mother and siblings to Belize City where he lived until age seven when his family immigrated to the United States and settled on the West Bank of Jefferson Parish.
Stephen graduated from high school in 1976 and began his mechanical engineering degree at LSU at the age of 16. His first posting after university took him to Aberdeen, Scotland where he met his future wife, Giselle. A couple of years later he moved to London and earned his masters in business at Imperial College, London. With the exception of a posting in Houston, Texas, Stephen spent most of his career in the Middle East, the last 12 years of which were in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates where he became senior vice president and general manager of Oxy Oil & Gas-UAE, an affiliate of Occidental Petroleum Corporation, and was responsible for all UAE https://operations.Throughout his career abroad, he travelled often with his wife and children, instilling in them a love of adventure, the sea, and good meals together.
Stephen had the opportunity to retire at age 60, settling in Houston, Texas for five years before moving to Estero, Florida to be closer to the sea. Despite traveling and having lived abroad for decades, he and Giselle started traveling for fun. With the advent of Covid, they traveled first to the National Parks in the northwestern states of the U.S., before traveling abroad to South East Asia and several diving trips to the Caribbean.
Stephen was diagnosed with cancer a few weeks after moving to Estero and survived for only 11 months. Cancer is a cruel thief. He was a kind, funny, smart, hardworking and devoted man. He was taken far too soon and he will be sadly missed by many.
Family and friends are invited to a funeral service to be held on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at Fort Meyers Memorial Gardens, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Meyers, Florida 33907. Visitation will begin at 10:30 AM followed by a service and interment.
