Susan "Sue" Miller's Obituary
Susan “Sue” Miner Delahanty Miller passed away peacefully on May 31, 2026, at Tidewell Hospice House in Port Charlotte, Florida. She died like she lived—like a boss, and sometimes like a stubborn Taurus who refused to learn how to text.
Born on April 28, 1944, in Mount Vernon, New York, Sue was the daughter of Evelyn and Harvey Miner. She grew up in Crestwood, New York, where she developed the quick wit, warm heart, and infectious sense of humor that would define her throughout her life.
Sue was first married to Richard Delahanty. Together they raised three daughters—Dawn, Janine, and Krissy—who were the greatest joy of her life. She later married William J. Miller. Together they shared many happy years between Hyde Park, New York, and Punta Gorda, Florida, where they eventually retired.
Sue’s hilarious stories, quick wit, and genuine kindness made her beloved by everyone fortunate enough to know her. She had a remarkable gift for making people laugh and feel at home, whether they were lifelong friends or someone she had just met.
Creative and talented, Sue enjoyed ceramics, crafting, and making special treats for family and friends. Chances are she made your favorite dessert—whether it was her caramel popcorn, brownies loaded with peanut butter cups, or another homemade favorite. She was also a passionate classic car enthusiast and a member of Kaiser-Frazer and Thunderbird clubs.
Throughout her life, Sue generously gave her time to others. She volunteered in her communities, helping children improve their reading skills and spending time with older adults in nursing homes. In retirement, she remained an active and valued member of the Ventura Lakes community.
Professionally, Sue spent much of her career as a medical assistant in Dr. Steven J. Cornell’s podiatry practice. Over the years, Dr. Cornell became much more than an employer—he became family. She was cherished by patients and colleagues alike for her warmth, compassion, and dedication.
Sue was predeceased by her husbands, and by her brothers, Eddie and Stephen. Sue is survived by her daughters, Dawn, Janine (Beth), and Krissy (Matt); her grandchildren, Jamie (Joe), Dan, Mike, and Alex, all of whom lovingly called her Nana Sue; William’s children, Cynthia (Dana) and Greg (Suni); and her sisters, Lynn, Joan (Hank), and Janis (John).
Sue’s greatest legacy is the love, laughter, and kindness she shared so freely. She will be remembered for her generous spirit, her sense of humor, her devotion to family and friends, and her ability to brighten every room she entered. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
Memorial donations may be made to Tidewell Hospice House or Charlotte County Fire & EMS in gratitude for the compassionate care they provided. Those wishing to honor Sue’s memory may also do so by performing a random act of kindness for someone in need—a tribute that would have reflected the way she lived her life every day.
The world is a little less funny without Nana Sue, but her love, laughter, and kindness will live on in the family and friends she cherished.
