Thomas Maher Fabbri Sr.'s Obituary
Thomas Maher Fabbri Sr., age 63, died after a short battle with cancer on Wednesday, March 4th, 2020 in Ft. Myers, Florida. He was born on December 19th 1956 in Litchfield, Connecticut to David Thomas Fabbri and Ruth (Barry) Fabbri. In 1982 he married Susan (Fortin) and together they raised their children, Thomas Maher Jr., Kevin and Kelly.
Thomas graduated from Litchfield High School in 1975 and shortly after graduating he moved to South Florida. Here, he began his life-long career in the beer industry, working for distributor Wm. Thies & Sons from 1979-2008 and then for distributor J.J. Taylor from 2008 until his untimely death. He always considered his “work family” a second family and stayed close to many throughout the years.
Thomas was a dedicated family man. He enjoyed participating in his children’s extracurricular activities both in school and in the community. He volunteered as a youth soccer coach for 15 years. He had a soft spot for all animals, especially the numerous dogs the family had throughout the years. He was competitive in every facet of life, from playing or watching sports, (Boston Red Sox, golf, football, NASCAR, etc.) to his work life, (the term, “Tough Love” was used often) and even down to decorating his house for Christmas- he never lost. He most enjoyed quiet times with his family- either by the pool, on the beach or even antique shopping. He loved to teach and train anyone that was willing to learn, whether it was children on the field or an employee in the field- this was all too apparent when he had all his grandchildren in the pool. He loved afternoons in front of his grill, cooking food that would later be the center of an evening filled with family, friends and funny banter. He had a zest for life and lived it with passion, compassion and a little bit of stubbornness mixed in.
Thomas is preceded in death by his parents, David and Ruth; brother John Barry Fabbri; sister Margaret Fabbri; cousins Peggy Keuibeda, William Mooney, Kevin Mooney, and Michael Mooney. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Susan; son Tom, his wife Brooke (Justice) Fabbri and their daughters Peyton and Avery; son Kevin with his daughter Lily and fiancé Jessica Ladmer; daughter Kelly with her husband Daniel Caner and their son Nathan; cousins Moira (Mooney) Wood, and Cara (Mooney) Battistoni .
The funeral services have been postponed and will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Tom’s name to the American Diabetes Association. http://main.diabetes.org/goto/InMemoryofTomSenior
