William John Barrett's Obituary
William J. Barrett, age 58, of Fort Myers, passed away on June 21, 2020 in the compassionate care of Hope Hospice surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born in Fort Myers, the son of the late Thomas and Lynn Barrett. Bill was a financial advisor since 1987 and was a First Vice President with Morgan Stanley. Bill was deeply committed to public service and had the distinction of being a former president of The Edison Pageant of Light, and served as a board member and former Vice Chairman for Goodwill Industries of Southwest Florida, was an active member of the Rotary Club of Fort Myers where he was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow and chairman of the Lee County School District Dictionary Project for the past eighteen years, served on the board for the Southwest Florida Boy Scouts of America, served on the finance committee for Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church, and served as a board member for Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Venice.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Lisa; four children: son’s Matthew, Mark, Michael, John, and family pet Ginger, all of Fort Myers; sister Maureen E. Proce and husband William of Fort Myers; sister Colleen Larkey and husband Ken of Carmel, Indiana.
Bill was a lifelong resident of Fort Myers and attended Saint Francis Xavier Catholic School, Bishop Verot Catholic High School, Santa Fe Community College, and Florida State University. Bill was a devoted family man and extremely loyal friend to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Bill lived life to the fullest and enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting, camping, barbecuing and cheering for the Seminoles. Bill was proud of each of his beloved sons and the young men they have become. He loved spending time with his family, enjoying Scouting and the great outdoors; especially fishing, camping, and riding four wheelers.
There will be a private Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church on Thursday, June 25, 2020. A Celebration of Life will be held later in the year when conditions are more conducive for public gathering. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 2057 Cleveland Avenue Fort Myers, Florida 33901.
